As the trans character Soo Hyeon in my novel says, “I am a butterfly, a man unfurling my wings. Pressed in tight for so long, disintegrating only to be reborn, I am finally ready to lift off and metamorphose into something more beautiful than the eye can imagine.” Two weeks out from top surgery, I’m healing well. Thanks for all your love and support. It’s a long recuperation and definitely teaching me patience.
Chuseok, the korean harvest festival, is coming Sept 28. This photo was taken as part of a ritual I did for my ancestors a few years ago. I sang in korean and channeled their movements and spirits. It’s been a long journey freeing my voice and telling their stories in a historical fiction book I’ve been working on for over 3 years.
For years I’ve been dreaming an intensive creative, embodied vocal training into being but was stopped by fear. Who will join? It’s a big commitment! 9 months! Drum roll, the free your voice and body stories training group launches tomorrow with 18 beautiful BIPOC and queer, non-binary and trans souls who will be healing their voices and ancestors, embodying their stories, speaking their truths, and reclaiming their life narratives. After 9 months, we will be butterflies together.
